Forest School: week 2

my elder pencil

Today at forest school I made a pencil. I had to take about 3 quarters of the pith out of an elder stick and replace it with charcoal. It took a while to do it but it was worth it in the end. I made a trail by drawing Batman faces on the trees with my elder pencil. My friends had to go around the trees looking for the Batman trail. Then I had to find some leaves and moss which I stuck onto a cardboard bookmark. My mum is going to laminate it for me. Lucy made a camp fire and everybody helped to collect logs for it.

Forest School

I went to forest school for the first time today. Lucy, the forest ranger, had some elderflower twigs which had soft pith inside. She gave us a tool to get the pith out so that the twigs became hollow. Now ants can live in them - like ant hotels. I think it would be cool if there were lifts and stairs in the ant hotel. Me and my friends used the stump of an uprooted tree to build a den. We put lots of tall sticks against it to make a rabbit hutch. It even had a doorway in the side for a rabbit to get in and out.
